Green Beam Laser Advantages Over Red Beam Lasers

Friday, May 10, 2013 10:38:10 AM America/Los_Angeles

"Why buy a green beam laser rather than a red beam laser?"

The advantages of green over a red beam laser.

Green Beam Laser Level vs. Red Beam Laser Level

When circumstances call for a laser that will perform in high light conditions or doing a large Interior job requires the laser to perform over a long distance; a green beam is the right choice. Because the green laser is a different class of laser, it requires more power to make it operate. This results in shorter operation time than a red laser. Never the less, this rarely sways an operator from the decision to purchase a green beam laser. A green laser has several advantages over a red laser. First of all, green is closer to the center of the visible spectrum, so it's easier for our eyes to see it. Since it has more energy, it can travel farther. A green laser looks as much as 50 times brighter than the red equivalent.

Gecko Gauge Hardi Board Siding Gauges By PacTool (Review)

Monday, April 22, 2013 12:51:59 PM America/Los_Angeles

"Gecko Gauge Hardi Board Siding Gauges By PacTool (Review)"

Gecko Gauge by PacTool

The PacTool Gecko Gauge works in tandem to provide the needed support to make siding a one person project. With the siding gauges from Pac Tool, siding is made simple. One simply adjusts the gecko gauge to the needed overhang; mounts the pair of gauges to the bottom edge of your uppermost hardi-board siding; and nails. There's no need to stop short to remove the gecko gauge before the board is mounted and you can manage this with one worker per set. The rounded edges and hard plastic frame are designed to decrease the likelihood of marring your pre-finished siding and the rubber locking grip pinches the board against a hard metal back without scratching or bruising the siding (see the SA903 Gecko Gauge in action.) This product is recommended for the Do-it-Yourselfer and the professional alike.

Self-Level Cross Line Laser Information

Thursday, April 4, 2013 3:15:55 PM America/Los_Angeles

"Self-Level Cross Line Laser Information"

A PLS Self Level Cross Line Laser

Pacific Laser Systems has several options for a self-leveling cross line laser. The options for a self level cross line laser are the PLS2, the PLS180, the PLS4, and the PLSHVL100. These lasers all can give the user a horizontal line, a vertical line, both horizontal and vertical lines together, and with models PLS2, PLS180, and PLS4, the self leveling feature can be electronically by-passed and locked so that a slope can be achieved with these models. All of these models are self-leveling so when the laser is placed on a flat surface and turned on it will fire up.
The self-leveling range is 6 degrees, so if the laser is tipped beyond this angle it will shut off and the on indicator light will turn from green to red. Once the laser is returned back to its self-leveling range the on indicator light will turn back to green and the laser will fire back up. Some lasers are not self-leveling and rely on a sprit bubble much like you would find on a carpenter’s box type level to level the laser. The problem with this type is that they are not very accurate as they are only as accurate as the vial bubble, and two, they will not shut off when the laser it tipped. This can be dangerous to the user as the laser might have been thrown out of level due to being bumped or from vibration on the job site.

Backpack Garden Sprayer By Tahoe Review

Thursday, April 4, 2013 10:38:49 AM America/Los_Angeles

"Backpack Garden Sprayer By Tahoe (Review)"

Backpack Garden Sprayer By Tahoe

This inexpensive Tahoe backpack garden sprayer is the best backpack garden sprayer in my shop for spraying Roundup weed killer on my weeds, Wet and Forget on my outdoor mildew stains, and copper sulfate on my fruit trees. I wouldn't do that with other backpack garden sprayers but since this one is so cheap to purchase, I own 3 of them! There is no way I would spray my weeds then hope that I got it all cleaned out enough to turn around and spray my trees so it is nice to have several of them around for all of the things that I use them for.

I have owned my 3 backpack garden sprayers for 2 seasons now and haven't had any problems with them. My only complaint is that the straps aren't very comfortable but the more expensive backpack garden sprayer brands are not a whole lot better. This backpack garden sprayer by Tahoe is very high on my list of recommended items to own!

Asparagus Ball Jar's Height (Review)

Thursday, March 28, 2013 3:40:01 PM America/Los_Angeles

"When The Asparagus Ball Jar's Height Matters (Review)"

Asparagus Ball Jars Height Is Perfect

Pros: At first I was intrigued by the unique size of this jar. It is conveniently sized in between a pint and a quart, which makes it absolutely perfect for longer pickled vegetables. If you are looking for a good fit for asparagus, Ball jar's height is perfect. We have found the wide mouth jars are better for solid items like dill pickles, beets, sauerkraut and things of that sort. These are still made in the USA and are comparably priced with Chinese knock-offs.

Cons: Probably too large for jams and jellies, unless you go through a lot of jam. If you already have pint and quart jars, these may make it more difficult to distinguish them as it is an in between size.

I would recommend this jar for pickled and canned fruits and vegetables.

A Basic Wood Cabinetry Making Booklet By The Kreg Tool Company

This instructional guide by Kreg is very informative and gives basic cabinet making tips for building with information on 'why' so you can alter the techniques for later. It’s written more like a wood-working mentor to a student so that the project can help you grow with new ideas and wood project builds.

Overall: Recommend for the beginning to intermediate woodworker or student of pocket hole jigs.

Impulse Adjustable Tripod Garden Sprinkler Review

Monday, March 18, 2013 2:57:14 PM America/Los_Angeles

"Adjustable Impulse Tripod Garden Sprinkler by Tahoe"

The Impulse Adjustable Tripod Garden Sprinkler by Tahoe

Pros: I have owned this specific sprinkler for about 4 years. I bought a second one about a year ago so that I could run two at a time. We currently have about 7000 square feet of vegetable garden and I use these two sprinklers to water everything except the tomatoes. The sprinkler has an 80 Foot diameter and a complete circular range, which is huge for a rotating sprinkler. The head can be set to spray from 0 to 360 degrees. The base is lightweight and collapsible, which is convenient for winter storage. When fully expanded as a tripod, the sprinkler head sits about 3' from the ground. This is great for spraying overtop late summer plants that tend to be taller. Even though it is light, the tripod style stand makes it very stable except in extremely high winds. The sprinkler has three ways to control the spray height and angle, which makes it very versatile.

Cons: The rotating sprinkler head has two springs that can get out of alignment during shipping and winter storage. This is an issue that I have had with other sprinklers of this style, and once you get used to adjusting it, it is no longer an issue. Specifically, the larger spring that coils around the cylinder has two guides at the top and bottom. Both guides are designed to have one spring coil only. A lot of times this coil pops out of the guide, or two coils end up in the guide. All you need to do is add or remove the spring coils until there in one full coil all the way around the head, on both the top and bottom portions. It is very easy to do once you figure it out. If you have this issue, you can give us a call and we should be able to troubleshoot it for you.

The only other issue I have had is during very windy days. If the wind is stronger than the water pressure that is rotating the sprinkler head, it may temporarily stop the sprinkler in place. We live in a very windy area of our county, and have only had this issue come up a couple times.

Overall: Great sprinkler, especially for the price.

SOG Jungle Warrior Fixed Blade Knife Review

Wednesday, March 13, 2013 4:00:17 PM America/Los_Angeles

"The Jungle Warrior by SOG"

Jungle Warrior Fixed Blade Knife by SOG    As a basic outdoorsman blade it makes a good moderate blade. It’s short enough not to be too cumbersome on your belt, but heavy enough to give power to your swing, and it’s forward balance makes your swing more efficient for your work. This blade is really best for the basic to intermediate wooded adventure. The grip is solid black rubber with stops on the ends and a textured body for a good grip. It’s a bit rough but isn’t likely to slip.

The Jungle Warrior also comes with a sturdy nylon sheath, complete with a cargo pocket and blade guards. Always remember to look for sheaths with blade guards, especially if they are made of nylon, it will help protect you and the blade from the thinner fabrics that slice too easily. It also comes with a snapping strap to secure the heavy blade inside the sheath. While the strap is a bit tight to easily close, it is also firm enough to stop the blade for jostling too much.

PLS180 Palm Laser Tool Application Guide

Thursday, June 16, 2011 8:59:02 AM America/Los_Angeles

Electrical Installation

The PLS180 Palm Laser is a self-leveling, compact and durable tool that projects bright, crisp laser-generated lines. These lines are accurate to within 1/8-inch in 30 feet. The operating range of the PLS180 is determined by the brightness of the lighting on the job site. Most job site conditions will allow for a working range of 60 to 100 feet. The PLS180 has four distinct modes of operation: the first mode projects a horizontal 'level' line and the second mode projects a vertical, plumb line. The third mode projects both plumb and level lines together. The fourth mode overrides the self-leveling features of modes one, two and three and projects a plumb and level line that can be positioned to project a sloped line.
