I recently purchased a reconditioned Dewalt 735 planer. I wanted you to know that it arrived in very good condition, and faster than I expected. I was impressed when I opened it up. The internal parts look like new! It's a fantastic machine. I cant imagine a brand new one performing any better. The best part is that buying from Hardware Sales saved me $120 or more.
Thanks,

PLS24X SET-UP AND APPLICATIONS

PLS24XSET-UP USING A TRADITIONAL FLAT-HEAD TRIPOD:

Erect the tripod and if you are working on dirt, drive each leg of the tripod into the soil by standing on the shoe which projects from each leg. This will ensure that the tripod will not settle unevenly during use.

Level the tripod head by sight or with the use of a torpedo level. This can be done by unlocking the cams on each leg and moving the upper section of the leg up or down. Now fasten the PLS24X to the tripod.

Spin the PLS24X so that the bubble vial is located directly over one of the leveling screws. Do not spin the PLS24X again until you have finished the leveling process.

Standing directly in front of the bubble vial, you are now ready to 'rough' level the PLS24X.

To move the bubble in the vial between 12 o’clock and 6 o’clock, you turn only the leveling screw under the vial. To move the bubble between 9 o’clock and 3 o’clock, you must move the two leveling screws that are not under the vial or, in other words, the two screws located on the backside of the instrument. To do this, place your index fingers on the screws. To move the bubble towards 9 o’clock, you 'push' both screws away from you at the same time. To move the bubble towards 3 o’clock, you place both index fingers against the screws and 'pull' both screws towards you at the same time.

Once the bubble is stable and located anywhere inside of the black circle on the vial, the PLS24X will self-level and be ready for use.

SET-UP USING A DOME-HEAD TRIPOD:

Erect the tripod the same as noted above. Fasten the PLS24X to the tripod. Grasp the entire instrument with both hands and maneuver the bubble until it stops inside the black circle on the vial. The PLS24X is now completely level and ready to use.

BASIC OPERATION OF THE PLS24X:

Become familiar with the focus knob, which is the large knob located on the right side of the unit when looking through the eyepiece. To swing or 'turn' the instrument to the left or right, you turn one of the Horizontal drive knobs. They are the smaller knobs located just above the degree’s circle. It is good practice to keep your 'Penta Prism' extended (the small hinged mirror on the left side of the instrument) to confirm that your bubble is stable and inside the black circle on the vial during use.

TURNING ANGLES USING THE PLS24X:

Note:
Caution should be used when using the PLS24X to turn angles on your jobsite. If you are in need of exacting tolerances in your layout, you should always check the angles you have laid out against a traditional mathematical formula such as a Pythagorean Theorem. Or better yet, if you’re laying out several 90 degrees angles, a PLS5 or PLS5X would be a more efficient and accurate tool for the job.

Position your tripod over your hub, benchmark or control line. Attach the line on the plumb bob to the clip inside of the handle of your tripod. Fasten the PLS24X to the tripod. Reposition the tripod so that your plumb bob is directly over your point of reference and then level your PLS24X as noted above. It may take a couple of tries to get the positioning over your starting point correct.

Align your vertical stadia line (one half of your cross hair) on a point on a wall or column, or on a plumb grade rod or stick. Then turn the PLS24X to your desired angle by counting the degrees on the circle.

IMPORTANT STORAGE INFORMATION:

Always store and transport your PLS24X in its carrying case. When the instrument is inside its carrying case, the pendulum is locked. This will ensure that the compensator does not bang around inside the instrument causing it to lose calibration when not in use.
